| ABOUT SANDAR GOLDENS In 1963 I visited the SPCA that was in my neighborhood. I did this often and had adopted a few dogs from them. This time a saw a Golden Retriever and fell in love. She was already spoken for so I went home and replyed to an ad in the LA Times and bought a puppy on time payments. I must have had an eye for a good dog from the start as she was the pick puppy in her litter. I started showing her in obedience matches and then in licensed shows and also in breed shows. She usually scored in the top 5 and was the 2nd highest scoring in a Mexico show. We were also picked to compete in the Top Dog OB competition when I was in Valley Hills OB club. We did not continue in breed as she had some white on her which was common at that time. I did breed her to a good dog owned by Lorne Thompson, LLOQUE YUPANQUI. I was working for him then as a dog groomer in his shop in Thousand Oaks. He was breeding and showing Goldens which gave me a great start. I kept 3 pups from her first litter – AM/MEX/CAN CH. SANDARAC RANDI AM/MEX/CAN CH. SANDARAC BROOKE & MEX CH. SANDARAC TEAK (Points toward his AM CH) I learned from experience and by watching and asking a lot of questions. I did not always do what everyone else was doing as far as breeding went. I had my own ideas and wanted to breed the best possible Goldens for conformation, health and temperament and also had a look in mind. This started happening when I bred to AM. MEX.CAN CH. CAL-VO’S HAPPY AMBASSADOR. He was an Import and I was one of the only ones who liked him! He became very popular when they saw what he had produced with my girls. I also bred to a bitch sired by an ENG.Import - CH.CHAMPAGNE’S GOLDEN BOY, called Mr. White. I have always preferred the “look” of the Imports above the Am bred Goldens and have had white and cream colors along with the regular gold colors since 1964 |
